It is definitely true. America is a slave to the television, but that isn't the worst part. The only thing we see on tv is conglamerate owned media. ABC, NBC they're all owned by larger corporations that promote their movies, their other companies through the media that we watch. In short we only see what "the man" wants us to see. The man being corporate america.
space cowboy, thanks for bringing that point up as well. So many people are living vicariously through the television. Its a tragedy that corporate america is instilling their way of life.
